Description: Sumio Kurosawa was an elite level Japanese luthier who made guitars that rivaled the greatest Japanese luthiers of the 1960’s – early 2000’s. His instruments are highly regarded, especially in Japan, where performers and collectors knew them to often be superior to equally priced guitars of Kohno and others. This signed Madrid 10 model was his most modestly priced concert-level offering and features a perfectly cut cedar top with Indian Rosewood back and sides. Unlike many guitars from this period, this Kurosawa does not feature the typical Ramirez bracing pattern, but a somewhat unique, straight, 6-strut pattern with very light braces and a stiff crossbar reminiscent of Tatay. The resulting sound is clear, sweet, and brilliant, with controlled overtones, strong basses and sparkling trebles. Also noteworthy, this guitar has a 650 mm string length and 52 mm nut, making it comfortable by modern standards. It has been recently set up with a very low action and would be great for students, teachers, and gigging musicians who need to have a guitar with a comfortable neck shape, standard string length, and a low action. It is in excellent condition for its age, with very little playing wear and no structural problems. At less than the cost of many new production line guitars, this Kurosawa would be an excellent step up for students, or an excellent choice for teachers and performers looking for a comfortable and beautiful sounding guitar from a top Japanese luthier.
