Dunlop Tortex

Dunlop Tortex Guitar Picks

Back in the day, actual tortoise shell was the premier material for making guitar picks. But trade in tortoise shells was banned worldwide in 1973. When no good substitute emerged, Jim Dunlop started experimenting.

The result was Tortex, a material that's designed to be as close as possible to real tortoise shell. Tortex picks are flexible, possess great memory, are harder than nylon, and last longer than celluloid. Dunlop created lots of other great picks before and since, but Tortex remains his company's most popular line.
