David Leisner - Classics & Discoveries DVD

American guitar master David Leisner plays a recital program featuring the works of J. S. Bach, Scott Joplin and Heitor Villa-Lobos, along with recently discovered works by Wenzeslaus Matiegka and Johann Kaspar Mertz. One of the earliest modern champions of the Romantic music of Mertz, Leisner calls his latest discover, the little-known Matiegka, "the Beethoven of the guitar." The program also features "Nel Mezzo: Sonata," a Leisner composition described by Soundboard as "an original and profoundly personal work...powerful, angry and moving music."

Recorded in the acoustically superb Engelman Recital Hall at the Baruch Performing Arts Center in New York City on June 11, 2007, this DVD was given only the lightest of editing in order to simulate the excitement and spontaneity of a live performance. A lively, informative interview is included. 1 hour, 32 minutes
