Classical Guitar Sheet Music: Guitar and String Quartet

Toward the end of his life, the prolific Italian composer Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) took 16 string quintets he'd written years earlier and arranged them for a new combination of classical guitar and string quartet. In desperate need of money, Boccherini arranged most of them for a patron who played guitar.

Only nine of Boccherini's guitar quintets survive today, yet another great loss to the guitar repertoire. Guitar quintets did not take off in Boccherini's day, but contemporary composers like Dusan Bogdanovic, Roland Dyens, Mark Houghton, and Jean Marie Raymond have brought new life to the form.
