Wegens are expensive but,...
I have been trying to order Wegen picks and couldn't find locally. I needed a reputable online source, but wasn't sure they would be worth the price. This order included an assortment of Wegen picks, all as potential replacements for Jazz III and Primetone; I have enjoyed Dunlop picks for many years. Wegen came as a suggestion from a local gypsy jazz artist, a versatile working musician and certified "monster" in my book. As a front porch player like me, this might be an excessively expensive indulgence. I'm really happy with the service from Strings By Mail, thrilled that SBM offered these when local stores (big and small) didn't even respond to requests. So, you get choices of big and small, thick and thin, holes or grooves. Somebody who likes Fender heavy picks has an easy choice; look at the picture, consider the thickness. You can go bigger (actual size bigger than I thought), you have choice, as long as you like white or maybe black. I got both. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately for me, I think the Gypsy Jazz, i.e., most expensive pick and the one originally recommended to me in 2.5mm, is going to work out well. There is a thicker Wegen option. Like any other pick, you have to break these in, but they likely will last. The Gypsy Jazz's grooves are a little sharp, the sound and volume take some adjustment, but I have high hopes--maybe high-priced hopes--that I can manage the pick better than old favorites. Wegens, especially the Gypsy-style, are hard to drop (Gypsy one fits the thumb). I'm nervous about losing such an expensive item. The ones with holes are nice, too; I had drilled out all the Dunlop picks anyway, this after the normally responsive company ignored my email to just put a thumb hole in the pick. I used bigger, fewer holes, but I'm afraid to enlarge the Wegen picks, as they might break with drill or punch. No regrets with the purchase. Delivered promptly, exactly as ordered. Wegens seem to work with beat-up hands like mine, and they surely seem like magic in the hands of a pro
