The GS3 incorporates feedback from GS1 and GS2 users to refine a few things, but the same great features of the original remain unchanged. Designed by two former Apple Computer product designers, the creators combined their love for classical guitar, and more than 30 years' combined experience playing guitars, to develop the last word in classical guitar supports.

Cradle Gripping System

Woodside Guitars researched all the systems out there and concluded that gripping the instrument where it's strongest, where the back and soundboard meet the sides, is the most secure and imparting essentially no impact on the sound of the instrument.

Pivoting Grippers - a patent pending design allows the grippers to confirm to the shape of your guitar, and align so as to provide equal gripping force to all 4 contact points. This means your instrument is securely held - no matter what - and with less force needed compared to previously available products.

Height Adjustment & Pivoting Action

The GS-3 will freely pivot to allow instrument movement that comes naturally with changes in the players body positioning. This is much less rigid feeling compared with that imparted by competing brands of guitar supports. If desired, resistance to pivoting (or rotation) can be increased or even eliminated. Height is adjusted easily by loosening the thumb screw and resetting the extension to the ideal height.

For a greater range of angular adjustment between the Cradle (the portion that clamps the instrument) and the Support Pillar, we recommend purchasing the AB-1 Angle Block Accessory Kit. Also available is an Extension Kit. This guitar support is available as a SCREW version instead of lever.

New and Improved Features:
- The Ball & Socket allows for greater range of positioning. The locking "Retaining Cup" now offers improved shape for more comfortable grip. - A broader, more ergonomically designed leg rest.
- The "Extended Collar" is now included with the GS2. This provides 48mm additional lift at no extra cost. Also features a new, more elegant thumb screw.

I had seen this type

I had seen this type of support used by various classical guitarists, and was intrigued by the way it automatically provides the ideal posture to play fluently and, hopefully, without fatigue. Obviously, the main concern is a fear of damage to your precious instrument. That's why I started experimenting with the SCR support with extreme caution. I appreciate the very subtle increase in pressure as you tighten the screw. You're not going to crack your 20,000$ guitar like an egg unless you add a vice to the mix. What I am much less happy about are the translucent rubber (or silicone?) pads at the end pieces that clamp onto the body. They seem a bit flimsy, and I have my doubts about their longevity. Obviously, any negative influence on the guitar top's vibration needed to be avoided. Still, I think the metal parts could have been slightly bigger, and the padding definitely should have been more substantial. I never put the guitar away with the support still clamped on. Height adjustment works fine, but the process by which you have to exchange parts on the main stem to achieve a steeper angle is a bit clumsy and finicky. The part that lays on your leg is fine, but I could have imagined something stronger here, as well. Especially the joint that decides the angle at which the stem sits on the leg rest should be rock solid. It's hard to tighten enough to ensure a consistent angle. In terms of playing, this support is indeed the effortless improvement in your playing position that you've been dreaming about. I would have given the fifth star to a slightly more trustworthy construction, but overall I can recommend the SCR wholeheartedly.

classical guitar novice

I used the extension which suits me. The problem with the support are the clamps which has a tendency of unscrewing itself when I lean into the guitar. The guitar slips out of the clamp. I then need to screw the clamp tightly again. Then there is the problem of how tightly should the clamps be tightened with causing damage to the shell. I have gone back to my previous Sagework support,

Comfortable and Secure on a Cordoba C12

This works really well on my Cordoba C12. I like the pivoting feature.

Just what I needed

My foot was falling asleep on the foot rest, so I bought the GS3-SCR so I could keep my feet flat on the ground and sit straight in the chair. It is very stable and feels solid, but my guitar kept popping out of the clamp. The excellent tech support suggested I might be over-tightening the clamp, as I had been. But I also found the guitar wasn't angled as high as I liked so I had been leaning on it a bit. Tech support suggested I consider the AB-1 extension which gives you a much bigger range of angles for the guitar, now the support is perfect.
I am very happy I saw Bradford Werner's reviews of guitar supports, he is very thorough, that helped me pick this support and I couldn't be happier with it.

Great support!

I've been using it for two weeks now and I really love how it can provide reliable footing yet be flexible. The only thing I'd like to know is whether or not it would damage the French polish with continued use.

As long as the support is removed between guitar playing sessions, there should be no damage to the finish. Of course after an extended time, say years of use, there may be some dulling of the finish in the area of contact. However, if that should occur, and if desired, this sort of blemish could be removed with an appropriate guitar polish. Again, under normal use, there should be no problem with any type of guitar finish.
