  • GHS Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings S325 Lt 12-54

GHS Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings S325 Lt 12-54

    By: Marc Scordato
After being impressed by GHS Laurance Juber strings I thought I would give these a try. On the up side I love the feel of these strings. On the down side these strings sound like strings that need to changed. Rating strings is very subjective. On an overly bright guitar these strings might work very well but on my well balanced Larrivee these strings lacked crisp highs and warm lows.

My new preferred string, beating all others I've tried (quite a few). They feel just a bit stiff at first, but give them a couple weeks and they relax and bloom into the most phenomenal strings I've ever played. I use them on my Martin M-36. The tone they produce is clear and sweet. Playing chords, you notice the distinct tone from each string. Excellent projection. These also seem like they'll last a long time. Outstanding!

I just put a set of these on my DeVoe Blanca Spruce top and they are very snappy silky and have great tone. They are a bit wider strings than the DAddario EJ 45C but they settle in very nicely. The feel is something that I was surprised with and very happy they are fast and silky trebles. They have some of the Titanium silky feel yet your dings can really connect well with the strings. The tone was also something I was very happy with there that very nice punchy snap with great tone. The bass strings respond very quick to rasgadios and sund great witn alzapua. I have played many strings that are available and these are going to be the strings on my guitars.
  • Savarez Cantiga 510J HT Classical Guitar Strings DAE, Bass Set

Savarez Cantiga 510J HT Classical Guitar Strings DAE, Bass Set

    By: Steven Davino
These strings are quite similar to the Corum HT basses. The differences are subtle to me. They have a beautiful tone, with possibly a little more emphasis on the fundamental than the Corum. They are better balanced tonally across the strings, which I like a lot, and are very easy playing. They are powerful, but no louder than the Corum. The Corum may be a hair deeper in tone, possibly due to the slightly higher tensions of the strings. I like them both, but can't say one is better than the other. Bottom line, if you like the Corum HT basses, you'll like these too.

I think that they're the best for flamenco guitar. Not too thin (as Supreme 20) not too thick as D' Addario Pro Arte. You have the total control of the strings and provide the right attack and crispy sound that flamenco needs. They're in tune very easily. I have tried a lot of strings but these ones are the most durable for my guitars. Sometimes I prefer La Bella's blacks or Aquila's Alabastro trebles (if someone wants to try something else).

  • DR Strings RCA-12 SUNBEAM Round Core Acoustic Guitar Lt 12-54

DR Strings RCA-12 SUNBEAM Round Core Acoustic Guitar Lt 12-54

    By: Marc Scordato
These are round core strings. Just as advertised they are soft to the touch and have great sustain. They sound terrific. The only down side is these low tension strings buzz a bit in drop tunings. I suspect switching to 13's will resolve this. Still, for standard tunings these are 5 star strings.

I think these strings are quite good; the trebles are better than other
'flamenco' strings and show better intonation than other strings. My only complaint is that the basses don't seem to last as long as other strings. Overall, they are a bit expensive, but for their intonation qualities alone, I would recommend them.

  • Holiday Gig Book: Solo Settings for Classical and Fingerstyle Guitar

Holiday Gig Book: Solo Settings for Classical and Fingerstyle Guitar

    By: Seth Guillen
It is a shame I can give this book no stars, however, I will say that if I could give this book zero stars I would. This is potentially the worst Christmas book of guitar music ever published. Not only does it fail to deliver on being a gig book, all of the arrangements are needlessly difficult, but it also contains terrible fingerings. The fingerings, in fact, are so bad that I was convinced that the author was not even a guitarist, much to my dismay, he is a guitarist. The fingerings constantly ask the player to "hop" a finger from string to string instead of using free fingers and or guide fingers to solve difficult passages. The simple fact is that a gig book, especially a Christmas gig book, should be true to the original and offer sight readable material otherwise it is NOT a gig book and should not be published as such. This isn't to say these arrangements are impossible, they can be played, however, they are not worth playing when you get to the meat of it. There are random harmonies placed at odd portions of pieces that make no sense. For example, the third line second measure of "it came upon a midnight clear" contains a chord on the down beat of middle C the D above and the G on the staff, this is a terrible non-functional harmony. It is jarring and halts all momentum of this great Christmas classic. The book as a whole contains example after example of strange harmonies like this which are possibly forgivable if the pieces are easily executed, however, they are not and so any gigging musician would be ill advised to spend time trying to work this up, especially if they are short on time.

GHS Laurence Juber Signature Treated Bronze Acoustic LJ30L Light 12-54

I prefer the sound of true mediums but prefer the feel of lights. The treble strings add a bit of harmonic fullness to the mix without being harsh. These strings are not coated but rather cyrogenically treated. Mine have been on for about 3 months and still sound terrific. Just for fun I put a set of GHS signature Laurence Jubers strings on my steel string and GHS signature Murial Anderson strings on the classical. I am very pleased with both sets.

GHS MA2390 Muriel Anderson Signature Series Guitar Strings, Full Set

I've tried carbon fiber strings but I found them to be overly bright and hard to the touch. Titanium trebles have the volume and sustain of carbon fiber strings yet retain the feel and tone of nylon. These strings are one third the price of some others I've tried but I've yet to find another set of strings I like as much as these. A word of caution : these are NOT ball end strings. The nub on the tip of the treble strings is a unique feature that keeps the string from unwinding.

    Gitano Guitar Support

Although this item works well and is comfortable to use, you have to be careful that the rubber blocks do not come off and damage the guitar. I need to have extra rubber blocks for the ones that have come off.

(SBM notes: The two rubber blocks are glued on from the factory and have been a problem on only a few supports)

  • D'Addario NS Classical Guitar Capo PW-CP-04

D'Addario NS Classical Guitar Capo PW-CP-04

    By: Alan Hahn
Best capo I've ever used. Much better than the G7 which is way too heavy and I thought a bit finicky about positioning. Never mind the fact it cost twice as much as the Planet Waves and is not as good. The Planet Waves is super light and has never made me have to retune after putting it on.

What a great product! I have the single battery powered Mighty Bright and wanted to upgrade. Sure enough this model puts out quite a bit more light without giving you a tan on stage. Having the option to be portable with batteries if need be is nice too. Highly recommended!
  • D'Addario EJ31 Classic Rectified Nylon HT Guitar Strings, Full Set

D'Addario EJ31 Classic Rectified Nylon HT Guitar Strings, Full Set

    By: David Martines
I tried these hoping to find a less expensive, American-made alternative to the venerable Savarez 520R. In my opinion, these are almost as good. The trebles in this set are bit harder and have more bite. So while these do have the distinctive rectified tone, they tend to "cry" whereas the Savarez seem to "sing". This may or may not be a bad thing, depending on the sound you are looking for. As for the basses - typical stiff core silver wound and perfectly acceptable, but who cares - we buy these for the rectified trebles.

I've used these Pro Arte's for many years and they last a long time. I believe they are the best nylon strings among all the others that are on the market today. You won't be disappointed!
