Portuguese Guitar Strings

The Portuguese guitar descended from the cittern, an instrument that traces its own origin to the 13th century. It's used most commonly to play fado, a mournful musical genre that emerged in Portugal in the 1820s or possibly earlier.

The Portuguese guitar has 12 steel strings strung in six courses.
