Portuguese Guitar Strings

Why play the Portuguese guitar? Well, if you play fado, you need a Portuguese guitar, and………. if you play a Portuguese guitar, you need these strings. Originating in the 1820s (or earlier) in Lisbon, fado is characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor, and typically melancholy. The (almost) required guitar uses 12 steel strings, strung in six courses of two strings, which are tuned with Preston Tuners, giving the guitar headstock its unique fan shape.
