If it’s good enough for John Williams and Joe Pass, well … that’s right, the esteemed classical guitarist teamed with the jazz legend at the behest of Madlem, a good friend of Pass who happened to be a gifted composer and arranger, as well as guitarist and banjo player,.

In fact, this was one of a set of pieces that Madlem wrote for the twosome, according to an interview Williams did back in 1996 with Classical Guitar Magazine. With the death of Pass, Williams saw “Monte Carlo” as one which would suit two classical guitarists, which he then recorded with Tim Kain. He called the piece “very light and nostalgic in style, very charming.”
