Born in Madrid, Bacarisse remained in the area to further his studies in university. He was the leader of his musical group the Group of Eight (aka Grupo de los Ocho). The ensemble, was loosely inspired by Les Six and The Five (comparable nationalist coalitions of composers), was established in 1930 to counteract musical conservatism in Spain. Aside from his music career, Bacarisse was also an artistic director of a radio station for several years and later became a broadcaster of Spanish language programs.
