Luiz Bonfa Solo Classical Guitar Sheet Music
(sorted by Newest first)
Smithsonian Folkways Recordings recently updated and released Luiz Bonfa’s material (Solo in Rio 1959), which captures his heritage as a Brazilian. He was gifted his first guitar on his eleventh birthday, in which shortly after picked up how to play with fluidity seemingly effortless. His abilities grew when he lucked out with a mentor whom he met at an event. His influence moved between classical guitar and popular Brazilian entertainment, for which his original compositions reflect. In his youth, he worked in nightclubs, hotels, and casinos in Rio and eventually moved to New York with little knowledge in the English language. Bringing vibrant Brazilian culture to the United States, Bonfa crossed melodies of jazz with that of Brazilian rhythms recording over 50 records as he toured Europe and Australia, circling his return back home in his later years.
