Nathaniel Dett Classical Solo Guitar Sheet Music
(sorted by Name)

How many composers can say their ancestors were slaves?! Not many, if anymore than just Nathaniel Dett. Notably the first African American to receive his bachelors of music from the Oberlin College Conservatory, he is considered a pioneer in American music. Dett was a pianist, organist, conductor, and professor when he wasn’t composing and performing. His music reflects his personal spiritual awakening, blending a family known Bohemian folk song with string techniques. His wife, also a devotee of the arts, was the first black graduate from what later became known as Juilliard School. Dett composed over 100 original pieces and wrote poetry books to expose the wisdom he held.
