Justin Holland Classical Guitar - Solo Guitar Sheet Music

Justin Holland was an early American champion on the guitar. No mean feat, as he was born in 1819 to free Black parents in Virginia, who died when he was only 14 years old. It was after moving to Boston in 1833 he heard Mariano Perez perform a concert on the guitar. He began to study the instrument (and flute!) and soon began teaching.

After attending Oberlin he became sought after as a teacher in Cleveland. Somewhere in between teaching and performing he found time to compose for the guitar. Lots of time apparently: Altogether, he composed and/or arranged more than 300 pieces, though many of them were lost over the years. Fortunately these were not.
