Chris Ruebens Classical Guitar - Solo Guitar Sheet Music

Belgian guitarist, singer and composer Chris Ruebens focuses on music for guitar and chamber music that includes the instrument. He mainly composes and arranges for the ensembles he is playing in and pieces with educational purposes. And before you ask, no, this is not the same piece as the 1976 hit of the same name by Stephen Bishop.

His music can veer outside the bounds of traditional classical music. For one, it often synthesizes classical, jazz and world music. For another, some of his compositions call for improvisation from the performers, a rarity for classical music today and hence for many classical music performers. Though it must be noted that Bach and many of his contemporaries relied on improvisation in their performances.

Ruebens has written for a number of different instruments and instrumentation, including solo classical guitar, guitar and string orchestra, guitar and violin, guitar quartet, guitar quartet and string orchestra, three guitars and ukulele. This piece for was actually based on a riff developed on ukulele. It premiered in 2021 on Lithuanian national television (Ruebens now lives in Lithuiania).
