David Pritchard Sheet Music for Solo Classical Guitar
(sorted by Name)

David Pritchard has straddled the worlds of classical, jazz and rock. His early studies were of classical guitar, but in his late teens he gravitated toward jazz. He formed a jazz-rock group in high school, and at age 20 replaced Jerry Hahn in vibraphonist Gary Burton’s band before forming Contraband with keyboardist Pete Robinson (not the Peter Robinson from Quatermass and Brand X, though he did further explore jazz-rock with the Don Ellis Orchestra).

Pritchard later recorded alongside Freddie Hubbard, Patrice Rushen and Chester Thompson, before switching gears completely, veering into acoustic/minimalist territory. He turned back to mainly acoustic and classical guitars. He began writing music for multiple acoustic guitars and solo classical guitar, and formed a guitar trio to perform his music. Check out Unassigned Territory as an example.

As this music is for solo guitar, you won’t need to befriend a dozen fellow guitarists (though it’s certainly fine to do so). Pritchard says some of these pieces were inspired to create a meditative feel; the tune "Coryza" was written with the acoustic steel string in mind, using the beguiling DADGAD tuning.
