La Bella Black Nylon Tape Wound 800-7 Seven String Electric 14-79

These are the strings played by Bucky and John Pizzarelli (John currently uses Whites as of early 2016). If you want to know how they sound, listen to any of their recordings in the past ten years. Of particular note is the "fwap" type sound that comes from these strings. I have these installed on my 17" William Moll for about a year and have no need to change to another type/brand of string. Though they are not as loud acoustically as a metal wound string they are excellent for acoustic electric and last a an exceptionally long time. Overall, if you are looking for the similar type sound as the Pizzarelli's, this is it.

I just put on a set of Labella Whites on a seven string moll 17". Compared to the blacks, which were on before, I have noted the following:

    1. The whites seems to be a bit louder than the blacks acoustically though not drastically. I attribute the increased volume to the initial bite of the string when plucked. See #3 #4 for specifics.

    2. The sustain is similar to the blacks. After the initial attack the tone mellows nicely like the blacks.

    3. When plucked the whites have more bite. The attack of the string is strong and gone is the "fwap" sound that I associate (and quite enjoy) with the blacks. This increased bite on the attack seems to be where the increased volume comes from.

    4. The whites feel like they are of a higher tension which may also contribute to an increased volume. My action has noticeably increased and I'm still on the fence about this as I enjoyed the low tension of the blacks.

    5. Appearance: The wrapping appears to be tighter than the black wrap.

    6. The pack does not come with an extra E and B string like the black package does.

    7. The strings feel more stiff than the blacks and of a higher tension though LaBella replied to an email I sent them about this and stated, "The tension should be the same as the black per our research."

Overall, the whites are louder and brighter than the blacks but also come with an increased tension. Gone is the "fwap" sound of blacks. My preference is slowly moving back to the blacks as I enjoy the lower tension and "fwap" sound.

I give it four stars because there is no fingering. It's just the notes. So now I'll just have to write in the fingering from another source or figure it myself. I wonder why they didn't include it and I'm a little disappointed.

This set is an example of a very poor quality product which is thrown on the market at a high price while clearly being underdeveloped. Basses were already tarnished and oxidized in several spots when they came in, while trebles had a poor intonation, were terribly out of tune on the 12th fret and are made out of a cheap quality nylon. After all, this is not a normal tension set when compared to other brands, but rather a light tension. If you prefer a light tension nylon stings, try instead D'Addario EJ43 or Labella Elite 427 which have a similar kind of feel, but of a far better quality at a much lesser price.

Right out of the box, I love this gadget! Immediately I noticed improvement in my posture, and I'm playing more relaxed all over - my back, shoulders, arms, and hands.
My guitar doesn't slip out on my pant leg, and I don't have to constantly reposition it any more. Who knows, maybe I'll even become a better guitar player... Hooray, ErgoPlay! And thank you, SBM!

a while ago I have been reluctant to use this as I do not prefer to put it on and wrap it over almost 50% of the guitar top and affect the performance. However, very recently, I have finally received my first expensive concert grade guitar and I've figured out a fantastic way to use this all the time for the guitar. I did not wrap it over the guitar while playing however, it is wrapping over on the guitar sides, and it is still wraps very securely while playing the guitar. In fact, I even have the Barnett guitar support attach on the guitar (not on top of the velvet but wrapping along the sides of the support) and it still wrap securely on the guitar. Since the velvet is not wrapping over the guitar top, it is not able to protect the area where the right arm is resting on while playing the guitar. I put another cloth on the area and the velvet wraps over it to hold it in place securely and my right arm will rest on the cloth which not only protects the guitar but also adding so much comfort for my right arm!

This protector is protecting my expensive guitar at all time, when I'm playing the guitar I would use the way as mentioned above, and when in the case, I will remove the Barnett support and wrap the velvet over the guitar top and put the guitar into the case!! I will buy another of this in the future and this is a must accessories for me now! Even if I'm going on stage, I will still do this! My guitar will be fully protected, my body flesh will never in contact with the guitar forever! I think I can easily sell my guitar in many years later with the condition as new!

I have been playing classical for almost 30 years, which means I am not as young as I was when I started and after playing for for a while, I feel that my back aches (especially near my left waist). So I asked a professional classical guitarist, Mr. Meng-Feng Su, who earned a post-graduate level pefrormance degree from France. Mr. Su suggested me to try GITANO. I just tried it for 30 minutes. At first, I put it in a too low position, and it did not help much. But then I adjusted it to a more proper height, and immediately I feel the pressure on my back and waist is relieved.

Someone mentioned the instruction is poorly printed, and it is definitely true.I even found a typo on the very frist line ("... and invent", which should be "... and invert"). But it's installation is very easy and the not-so-well-printed instruction is not a big problem (if that can be improved, it will help). So I still give it a 5-star rating.

I love this selection, I have not experienced many brands and never mixed them- but this combo is a revelation!
I have tried other "squeakless" string sets but there its never enough volume in 1 and 2. not so with the Hannabachs.
    thank you

Amazing strings ! The trebles, although of a higher tension than my usual ones, required a little while to adapt to. But within days I realized that I had at last found the warm and homogeneous tone I had been looking for, which I had developed during years of playing without fingernails (though I now play with relatively short nails). No complaint about the basses, which I find blend very well into the trebles.

I suspect that these strings may also have such a fine sound because they are well adapted to my guitar, a 1997 J. Farré from Barcelona.
  • OLD Philippe Bosset Carved Bone Classical Bridge Saddle PBACC06

OLD Philippe Bosset Carved Bone Classical Bridge Saddle PBACC06

    By: Sheldon Imperio
I bought two of these and put them on two different guitars and the results have always been good. Even without any custom tuning, these intonate extremely well overall and the compensated G helps a lot. In fact the reason I got this is because the stock bone saddle on one of my high end guitars didn't intonate that well, but now the guitar just sounds in tune up and down the neck. As a bonus, the tone even sounds better, probably because the bone is of a higher quality, which I can tell by look and feel. Just remember that the guitar will sound awkward at first since it has to readjust to string tension.

Be sure to buy high quality sand paper and make sure you know what you're doing as these come a bit tall and you'll have to sand them down to size (use the old saddle to compare string action). On one of the guitars I even had to make the saddle thinner to make it fit in the slot, but it still worked perfectly fine. Overall, these are highly recommended!

I took advantage of the recent complimentary promotion set and tried these out. I was pleasantly surprised by this set of strings. The treble strings, particularly the 1st, have a rounder, more solid sound to the tone, and have more projection than previous strings I've used. Prior to this, I was using the Savarez Cantiga normal tension 510 AR (Alliance trebles and Cantina basses) and they are very, very good strings, but I think the Oasis GPX+ edge them out. My only complaint --and this applies to the Savarez as well as other brands-- is that the treble strings lose their smooth surface from nail abrasion and the tone becomes less than idea after a couple of weeks (this is not a fault of my nails which I keep glassy smooth, but just a natural wearing of the string surface).I've found that twisting the strings a few times and retying it extends the life of the string and can restore some of the smooth attack. I wish manufacturers would find a way to make a longer lasting exterior surface of the strings.

I would call these the industry standard. Quality control is excellent, almost no duds out of hundreds of packs that I have used (unlike more expensive European sets that I have tried). The tone is very clear and balanced, intonation is always excellent. The basses are quite bright, and may be too "squeaky" on some spruce top guitars. Try these on your guitar first for a neutral sound, and then compare other sets. I recommend these strings to all of my students, and always have them on the Yamaha guitar that I use for teaching. That being said, they are not powerful enough for my Paulino Bernabe Imperial guitar. I use them for down times between recitals, when I don't want to spend big bucks on strings, or for ensemble playing when ease of performance may outweigh some tonal considerations (they play very easily and well). The Bernabe is a special guitar, and it responds better to Hannabach Silver Specials. Most guitars will respond well to the D'Addario strings, and the price is reasonable.

Thomastik-Infeld George Benson Jazz Series GB114 Electric Guitar 14-55

These are fantastic strings for the hollow body jazz guitarist who wants a smooth, deep wooden tone. Intonation is excellent, quality control is great (have never had a bad string from this company). They are expensive, but flat wound strings don't need to be changed very often - once or twice a year, in my case. I use these on an Eastman jazz guitar, and they really help to get that thick woody Wes Montgomery/George Benson tone, really warm and as full as a guitar can sound. Don't plan on bending strings if you use this gauge - I have other guitars for that style. For straight ahead jazz, this is the best.
  • Hannabach Silver Special 815HT Classical Guitar Strings Full Set

Hannabach Silver Special 815HT Classical Guitar Strings Full Set

    By: Ian Hodges
These are the best strings that I have used on my 1993 Paulino Bernabe Imperial guitar (spruce top, Brazilian back and sides). I have tried at least a dozen different sets on this guitar (including some VERY expensive brands from Europe), but keep coming back to the Hannabach Silver Special. A very warm and powerful sound, nicely balanced. Yes, the D string seems to break earlier than on some other brands (hence the 4/5 rating), but if you change strings regularly this is not an issue. Of course, every guitar and every player is different, but if your guitar requires a solid tension to drive the top (D'Addario hard tension are too light to bring out the best in this guitar, and the basses are too bright), and you want a powerful sound, check these strings out. A bonus is that they are not outrageously expensive.

Never ever tried a set of strings of this kind of poor quality. No anti corrosion, they lasted 17 days. The trebles are like" plastic sound" and no sustain at all. The basses are poor and lack of sound, the D strings just jump off 5 days after from the head of the guitar.
    Useless.

Aquila Granato Series Flamenco Guitar Strings 135C, Full Set

I tried these on my flamenco negra and I like the sound of the trebles but... the g string on 3 different sets broke while tightening the strings or, in the case of the third set, within 10 minutes after bringing to pitch. (that was with everything ½ step down so I was tuning the g string to F#) The guitar has a 12-hole tie block so my best guess is that the g string can't handle the not used to keep the string from slipping. I haven't had this problem on my blanca which has a 6-hole tie block. I still love these trebles on my blanca but I'll be staying with Savarez on my negra.

The basses on these are a little brighter than on the Rubinos but not bright enough for my taste.

D'Addario EJ45FF Carbon NT Classical Guitar Strings CBN-3T, Treble Set

Beautiful sound. They have everything you'd expect from Carbon strings - Good volume, sustain, bright sparkle... Plus they are full sounding and the high E string is probably one of the best carbon strings I've ever tried since they blend well with B and G and don't sound as piercing and strange.

Unfortunately I have to dock 2 stars though because these feel like the stiffest I've ever tried, to the point that they feel a bit cutting on the finger tips. It's tolerable, but it really adds up over long practice sessions. I don't think the discomfort is worth the sound. YMMV

Additionally, be absolutely sure to use a cardboard guard when stringing these up and loop the B and E string one extra time. The trebles slip VERY EASILY, which is something I've never experienced before with any other string! My b string slipped and would of put a terrible ding on my new guitar had it not been for the cardboard string guard that I use.

The packaging shows medium tension but they feel like light tension. Just put a set on my Jose Ramirez 130 Anos and they sound really nice; rich, full tone and sustain. But OMG they are nearly effortless to play!!! I recently made a new saddle for this guitar so that I could lower the action while still retaining the original saddle (just in case), and it played much easier than the factory setup; but after installing these strings it plays like butter. What a difference they made. Highly recommended
