  • Cordoba Mini M - Natural

    Cordoba Mini M - Natural

    By: Carl Horwitz
The Mini M is a fantastic little instrument. It's amazingly light, but feels sturdy and somehow still feels really balanced in the arms. Obviously I don't get the same deep sound as my full-sized instruments, but it has great tone and projects quite well for such a small package. I had a Cordoba Guilele for a few years and while I enjoyed it, there were a few things that I wasn't crazy about; the skinny neck was difficult for my fat fingers, coming from a traditional guitar I never mastered restringing it with the knot and I never felt the build quality was as good as it could have been. For me, the Mini fixes all of these "issues" and is a perfect little guitar to strap on my back when I'm out and about. I couldn't be happier with the instrument and felt very supported by Strings By Mail and my interactions with Matt.

The finish and overall feel wasn't as solid as my old standard Shubb, but the function seems flawless so far. Much smoother operation than the standard Shubb and much easier to adjust. Recommended!
  • Luva Arm Pad - Rigid Support - Large

Luva Arm Pad - Rigid Support - Large

    By: Alan Emerson
It has been a while since SBM has been out of stock on this item so I ended up getting one through another channel. There is a rigid curved plate under a padded surface which hangs your forearm out over the guitar minimizing contact with the face and edge. The advantages are that; it saves the finish of your guitar, allows the arm to glide into different right hand positions with reduced friction, distributes the pressure point on your forearm so that the fingers have more ease of movement, fits comfortably and stays in place relatively well. The only gripe I would mention is that the upper portion of the cuff tends to loosen up elastically after time, although washing and drying it seem to help it recover some elasticity. I have noticed reduced right hand and arm fatigue after long playing sessions with it on and although it took a few hours initially get used to the feeling (it's way different than playing with a bare arm), I now find that I much prefer to wear it when playing than not. I hope SBM works out the delivery issues with this sleeve, because it really is a great product.

Update: I discovered soon after writing this review that the plastic cuff had developed a crack where the arm rests on the edge of the guitar. This is after 2 months of use. So minus one star for that. Additionally, I have been trying to deal with the manufacturer and their communication is dim and lame, so minus another star for that. Really disappointing. It's a shame no one else makes these, maybe they'll update their manufacturing process and learn how to do business. Not holding my breath though.

D'Addario NS Classical Guitar Capo PW-CP-04

A decent capo in my opinion. I have used it for some years after my Shubb was stolen. I have the impression that it's rather sensitive to neck shape. It works fine on one of my guitars (which has a pretty solid neck). On my other guitars it fits less well, which results in only average accuracy and buzz reduction.

Best, longest lasting strings I have used in 30 years! I used to change my strings every month depending on how many gigs I had, sometimes more. These last me a year. When I replace them simply for preventive maintenance, I can't tell the tone of the new strings from the ones I took off. But I change them every year on all my basses. These are saving me tons of hard earned $.

I bought a 5 string set of these from another online retailer. I strung and set up an Ibanaz sr 605 as a back up to my Roscoe. Took the bass with me on four gigs and never pulled it out till now. They were DEAD! Never played, keep inside, in a case and DEAD! First and Last DRs for me.

I have a negra with 5 fan braces under the soundboard and it works well with these medium tension set. For this particular negra, the J46 was too stiff and J45 too soft. Tried the Luthier Popular 20's and it was getting better but still just a little stiff so I tried these Savarez 170. Wow, it was spot on with perfect tension, diameter & tone. I love it. If u determined that your guitar needs med tension but you're not getting the right feel & sound with J45 & the 20's, try these. I think it's perfect for five braced pattern soundboards but still on the heavier side like a rosewood negra guitar.

Thomastik-Infeld KR116 Flat Wound Classical Guitar Strings, Full Set - Ball ends

After trying nearly everything out there I bought a packet of these to try out on my Godin Multiacs and Yamaha NTX and NCX series guitars.
These are beyond doubt light years ahead of any other Nylon Style string I have ever come across. All the strings are wound and graduate in size as they would on a steel string set. As far as tuning is concerned you put them on and tune them; that's it just like a set of Phos/Bronze. They do not need a week to settle in only about 5 minutes playing. Volume and power throughout the string range is loud full and balanced. Superior in every way to Carbon and the other new technologies. Sound somewhere between a good Carbon set and a Silk and steel acoustic set. Bass strings have good positive tension without the usual flabbiness of some bass sets. Gone is the "G" string joke of fat rubber band. They are expensive YES but do last quite a while. 20 stars out of 5.
  • Hannabach Silver Special 815MT Classical Guitar Strings Full Set

Hannabach Silver Special 815MT Classical Guitar Strings Full Set

    By: Alan Emerson
I have been trying out many different sets of strings for the past few months now, and these are without a doubt, my favorite set thus far. The evenness of the sound is exceptional. The basses are very stiff, which I like. I find that a stiffer bass leads to more focused tone and not as much slop in vibration, minimizing buzzing issues. One thing I noticed which was mentioned in another review, is that the G string does sound dull for a few days after restringing. If you give it about a week of stretching in, it begins to really fill out and gain proper tone. The other treble strings do not have this issue. It has also been my experience that the longevity of this particular set is excellent. And, unlike other strings, the tone seems to get better the longer they are on the guitar, if played regularly. Of course, there does come a point where the tone drops off, but they do hold up really well. These are a bit expensive compared to the other standard fare out there, but they are totally worth it.
  • ErgoPlay Tappert Guitar Support

    ErgoPlay Tappert Guitar Support

    By: Alan Emerson
I am very happy with this guitar support. It is very intelligently designed and simple to use. The amount of adjustment available is terrific. It allows you to vary the height as well as the angle of inclination towards the player. The suction cups are also very grippy and if positioned correctly within their adjustment range, they stay put. The knee rest material is also appropriately grippy, even staying fairly stable on my bare leg, as I always play naked, especially when I play in public. I will never use a stupid stinking foot rest ever again! Yea!
  • GHS 2390 Smoothwound NT Classical Guitar Strings, Full Set

GHS 2390 Smoothwound NT Classical Guitar Strings, Full Set

    By: Derek Riddle
After comparing different Bass strings, I decided that I like the GHS strings for their clarity of sound. Other strings seem to sound muddy compared to the GHS strings and these rollerwound strings have less string squeak compared to a regular roundwound. They are not flat and smooth like polished strings but polished strings sound flat and dull while these rollerwound strings don't sound flat to me at all. I tried the whole set and the clear nylon treble strings are probably as good as any, but I prefer the sound of rectified nylon B&E and am now using the GHS wound G string. I suggest trying these GHS smoothwound or their regular roundwounds if you want a clean and clear sound from your bass strings, and if you find yourself debating between which tension to get, I suggest going with the lighter tension you're considering because these strings are on the stiff side and could be the reason they produce such a clean sound.

Hannabach Silver 200 MHT Classical Guitar Strings, Bass Set

    By: Laurence Mardon
Wonderful bass set ... I've paired them with the Knobloch MHT carbon trebles (a beautiful string) & they give a beautiful, warm tone with wonderful clarity & sustain. I've been searching for another bass string since Aquila discontinued their great Alchemia sterling silver basses: I think that there's something very special about pure silver strings ... I've tried the LaBella sterlings (hollow & uninspiring), the Pyriamid (okay, but nothing to write home to Mother about). The Knobloch sterling silvers are absolutely spectacular .... but they're $ 55!!! They're worth every penny, tho. These Hannabachs pair better with the Knobloch trebles, tho ... the Knobloch basses are so powerful that they overpower the trebles (maybe because I've only tried the High Tension Knobloch basses ... would the MHT pair better?). These Hannabachs are a great, great string.

Savarez Tomatito T50R NT Flamenco Guitar Strings, Full Set

    By: Allen Essensa
These are the best flamenco strings I've ever used. I bought these strings awhile ago because of a special from a Strings by Mail ad and put them on my 1969 Manuel Reyes blanca and a Reyes copy I made. Not to be too dramatic, but it was like the Reyes had awakened after a long sleep.. a wonderful, fuller tone without sacrificing the edge. The Reyes always had a lyrical quality, but it was sometimes hard to hear because of strings I've used (e.g. too thin, or unbalanced towards bass or treble). I had tried many strings as recommended by players and sellers and these are the best. I'm just ordering some more to put on a 1998 Tezanos Perez negra and can't wait to hear it. This is the most dramatic improvement to a guitar's sound I've ever experienced.

I have a small collection and have been able to match strings to guitars pretty well over the years, but this match has been the best. Very happy!

These strings are wonderful. Full, balanced, harmonically rich. And they feel great; perfect tension for me. Also, you can get singles to customize your set. Plus! SBM is a really decent company to deal with (And you gotta love the SBM decal).
  • D'Addario EJ44TT Dynacore XHT Classical Guitar Strings, Full Set

D'Addario EJ44TT Dynacore XHT Classical Guitar Strings, Full Set

    By: Alan Emerson
I really like these strings. The bases are very powerful but not overbearing. Their sound is natural but very strong. The trebles are an excellent compliment to the basses and bring the set to a nice balance. I had these strings on my main practice guitar for 5 weeks before I changed them out for a different set, as I am trying various brands and tensions, but they still sounded great before the change, although not quite as good as they did one week in, and I could have easily gotten another 2 weeks out of them with 2+ hours a day of playing time. I am going to try the next step down in tension and try the Hard version as that will slightly improve the playability and I expect the sound to be just as good. For the price, these strings present an outstanding value.
  • Kling-On Fret Dots Semi-Permanent fret dots FDS-8, white

Kling-On Fret Dots Semi-Permanent fret dots FDS-8, white

    By: Alan Emerson
These fret dots are indeed semi-permanent, in that they don't last long. They are also absolutely not "repositionable". They tend to disintegrate under minimal contact with fingers, palms, etc. I have had to replace a few already after less than a week of use, as they seem to slide out of position as they gradually disappear. The alcohol swab that comes in the package to clean the fretboard edge prior to placement also dulled the finish on my expensive classical guitar. You too can get all this for 2.95!

Pyramid Excelsior Classical HT Classical Guitar Strings, Full Set

    By: Eugene Ianniciello
These strings are VERY hard on the L.H. fingertips and even on the R.H. fingers. They are extremely durable and this includes the 4th string too - they DO last. The sound coming from these strings was very good. I normally play high tension but these strings were absolutely painful. I'll try the medium tension next time around.

Elixir 16182 Nanoweb Coated HD LIGHT Phosphor Bronze Acoustic 13-53

    By: Marc Scordato
As advertised these strings do indeed provide greater highs and lows. The sound amazing. On the flip side I was at first put off by the extra tension on the high B and E but in time I became comfortable with them. This is my string of choice for my Larivee L03. I change them annually but the new ones sound the same so I can't say just how long these strings last but it's a very long time.

D'Addario EXP Coated Phosphor Bronze Acoustic EXP38 12 string 10-47

    By: Marc Scordato
On my 6 string I prefer elixirs as they are a bit brighter but on a 12 string the warmer Daddarios really work well. The NY steel is very stable so there is no need for much tuning. A big plus on a 12 string.
