Guitar they are they played on: 2006 Greenfield Guitars, Model C2 #094
Constructed with: 3" eastern hard flame maple sides, carved eastern hard flame maple back, bear-claw alpine spruce top, spanish cedar neck / ebony fretboard, K&K Trinity pickup (electric-acoustic by design)

Creator: Michael Greenfield (Submitted by Geoff Moore)

Creator Description: This is a very bright-sounding guitar, that rings like a bell due to the very rigid sides and back with drum-like top that was carefully tap tuned to ring. In the upper register, the new materials produce strong and loud fat tones that sound like a chime more than a string. Mesmerizing light-jazz sound (or classical, but my skills therein are more limited). For scales and chords to sound like one voice, the timbre of each string has to progress from one to the other without a big jump. The 3rd string is very difficult, and the T-I wound 3rd is magnificent. The Savarez Alliance and Hannabach Carbon 3rds aren't bad, and for someone wanting to just get sets of treble and bass and throw them together, the Hannabachs or Savarez with the La Bella 413 (or even the 500) is a nice set of strings. The T-I 3rd string, though, really fills the gap.

I realize I am a very privileged player to have this guitar, but I've experimented with this set on a $500 La Patrie Collection classical guitar (my first guitar), and the intrinsic matching between these strings is useful on the La Patrie as well. Thus, I think other people will find this set to their liking and be worth purchasing. I think even some classical players will like it. Those who won't like it will be those who want to exploit tonal differences in the tenor and baritone voices of a guitar, who are seeking to harmonize two voices in the style of, say Segovia or George Van Eps (I'm not anywhere near that good!)

Alteration: As an alternate, for those who like a more clear smooth-surface for strings 1 and 2, I've found the Hannabachs can be replaced almost indistinguishably with: #1 Savarez Alliance 541R and #2 Savarez Alliance 542R.

The reason why we created C3 here at SBM in Geoff's words: "I always get my strings from SBM because you let me mix and match, and for a nylon jazz set that is important in generating a bright fat tone that really rings clear and has tonic uniformity across the string sets. Having experimented a lot, there is no string-maker who's got that licked (a few come close). So I have to mix and match."
