D'Addario Chromes ECB81M Flatwound Regular Light (45 - 100), Full Set

Love the big, warm tone that I get from these strings. These strings are every bit as responsive as round wound strings, but without any of the string noise.

Fine strings. Take care not to order the medium length for Fender PJ as the bindings will extent over the nut.

The Guild Starfire II bass, standard 2-pickup model, come with D'Addario nickel round wound 45-65-85-105 strings, which are fine but there is quite a tone change from the D to the G, which I find to be the case with many basses. The round wound are, as expected, pretty bright, so it's hard to get tones that aren't full of treble. I had to keep the tone controls at about zero. I first tried La Bella flats, same gauges, but felt the set to have a fairly thick tone, and the E felt and sounded pretty thuddy to me. On advice, I installed the D'Addario Chromes ECB81M and I am VERY pleased. They allow a greater choice of tones than the D'Addario round wound, have a fairly uniform tone in the D-G jump, which is awesome. The E is thicker sounding than a round wound, but not as muddy as the LaBella. Probably helps that the 81M have 80 and 100 lower strings, so they have less mud than the 85-105 flats. Really pleased so far. Interestingly, in making those set changes from the stock D'Addario round to La Bella flats to D'Addario flats, I had to make NO neck relief adjustment and NO intonation adjustment on the Guild. Bought these for my Fender CB-60sce acoustic bass. Wanted to eliminate finger noise, these do the trick. Stay in tune just fine, no finger squeak, and sound very good amplified. Strings By Mail delivery was very prompt.
