Giuliani | 12 Neue Wald-Landler, op. 23 for solo guitar

These Wald-Ländler op. 23 were first published in Vienna in 1810, when the young Giuliani had just arrived in that city from Italy. They are lively dances suitable for beginners as they mostly have just a single line of melody plus a good many open basses. No. 7 has some of its melody higher up on the strings thus giving good practice for beginners in playing at those higher positions.
The Ländler (here Wald-Ländler) was a country predecessor of the waltz, in triple time, very popular in Vienna at the time of this work, namely in about 1810. The waltz, derived from it, was growing fast in popularity. In these twelve Wald-Ländler op. 23 of Giuliani you can practically hear the slapping of the Lederhosen.
