Minneapolis Idyll is essentially a morning song of sorts and a rumination on landscape. Joy is mixed with introspection. There is use of a pentatonic scale and a Verdi-inspired tremolo section, too.
Though music in the end is just a fetching (hopefully) collection of tones, I was attempting some tone painting with
Minneapolis Idyll at least to get me through the composing process. I pictured a late August/early September morning when the first signs of fall appear: the light is delicate and orangey, lakes are giving off vapors from the cooling nights and all things have a smoky tinge.
