Gwin arr. by Chandler and Palmer | Thaw for solo guitar

Thaw was composed for hammered dulcimer by Holly Gwin and arranged for classical guitar by William Chander and Matt Palmer. It was published by Musica Canis Avem of Annapolis, Maryland, and released in May 2018 in its World Premier Recording by guitar virtuoso Matt Palmer.

William Chandler recently founded Musica Canis Avem to promote new music. He studied music theory and composition with David Van Vactor and guitar with Larry Long and Matt Palmer, and began arranging Thaw for classical guitar in 2017. Chandler is also an energy and climate scientist and entrepreneur and has worked throughout the world to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

Holly Gwin studied dulcimer with Maggie Sansone and Karen Ashbrook, and composes and arranges music in her studio near Annapolis, Maryland. She formerly worked as general counsel for the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

Matt Palmer recorded and released Thaw in May 2018. He has appeared as a soloist throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico, Canada, South America, and the Caribbean. A recent recipient of the "Up and Coming Guitarist of the Year" award by Guitar International Magazine, he is author of The Virtuoso Guitarist method. Matt is world renowned as a virtuosic and soulful concert artist. His numerous CD and DVD recordings have been applauded as "of the highest quality…with flawless technique, deep levels of personal expression, and an artistic integrity that seems far too rare these days."

Matt Palmer has collaborated with many important composers to write new music for the guitar, and has premiered and recorded over three hours of new works by Tanya Anisimova, Rafael Scarfullery, Sergei Rudnev, Giuseppe Torrisi, Roger Hudson, Olga Amelkina-Vera, Lane Harder, Konstantin Vassiliev, and Fedor Kondenko.

Matt holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The University of Arizona, where he studied with Thomas Patterson and Artists-in-Residence David Russell, Sergio Assad, and Odair Assad.
