Easy Listening
Review by JohnB on 30 Jul 2023 review stating Easy Listening Erik Marchelie is a prolific composer and arranger with works ranging from solo, orchestral, and guitar with other instruments. The edition Entre parentheses, is written for solo guitar. It's a short piece comprised of 65 bars. Written in B minor, the piece begins with a nice short arpeggiated nostalgico section. It then moves along Piu mosso at 108 in 3/4 time. And no...it's not a waltz. The melody is carried in the upper registers until the last 9 bars--then switching to the bass strings with a harmonic b at the 19th fret to finish. I really like this piece along with the other works I have by Érik Marchelie. There's enough going on here with harmonics, 1/6 note fills, and a singing melody to keep the player and audiences attention. Despite written in B minor the piece is not melancholy at all and sounds improvisational while not being too difficult.
