OLD Philippe Bosset Prestige Clear Nylon Classical, Hard Tension PRETF

For a good while I swore by Hannabach strings, but with every other set, I would my guitar case and find a broken string. Wearying of that, I tried others, most recently Arunjuez, the brass high tension variety. They sounded pretty good, but they hadn’t been on a week before the A string broke (also overnight in the case), followed a couple days later, while playing, the D string. I understand that strings break from time to time, but two? And so soon after putting them on? My replacement strings of choice are D’Addario, which are strong and reliable, if not producing the finest sound. Which brings me to Philippe Bosset. I always use high tension, and these strings not only produce a lovely tone and sustain, but are durable. No broken strings so far, not that a broken string is cause to abandon a brand one likes. But reliability is certainly as important as sound quality, and while Hannabach strings sound very good, they tend to break. A good default string is certainly D’Addario, but for me, at least so far, I haven’t a string I like better than Philippe Bosset.

For my 2000 Thomas Humphrey, the sound is beautiful and the balance particularly nice. To my ear, a better overall sound that the D'Addario ProAtre Dynacores I'd been using, and more mellow (less bright) than the Hense I had immediately after the Bosset's. But of course it depends on your guitar and your preferred sound.
