The piece “Chaconnitsa in D” adopts the form of a chaconne while incorporating compound rhythms and modes drawn from the Bulgarian tradition—an approach I have been exploring for several years.
What I am now seeking is to combine a kind of natural simplicity with a complex modal and rhythmic language, an association that finds its full meaning and achieves balance within the clear and well-defined form of the chaconne.
