Pierrat | Romance for solo guitar

Guitarists who are familiar with Carcassi's "Étude No. 3 in A major" may find themselves confused when first attempting Pierrat's "Romance" (subtitled as an hommage to that piece) because in fact, the very first measure is identical. After that, however, the piece branches off on its own with a lilting, lovely little melody leading the way in a descending pattern as the bass holds firmly onto the "A." Rhythmically, it is even more similar.

"Romance" runs about 3 minutes when played at tempo, and it will be a nice melodic bridge between more difficult pieces in your repertoire. It also makes for a fine companion piece to Carcassi's Étude (for the purposes of learning; I wouldn't place them back-to-back in a concert setting). There are a couple of jumps that will offer a bit of challenge to newer players but, overall, there is nothing too difficult here. Very pretty, and very much recommended.
