Le Case sotto i Pini, Sonata I for violin, is a composition in memoriam Mercede Mundula, a poetess from Cagliari who lived between 1890 and 1947. The title is taken from one of her novels (“La casa sotto il pino”, Turin, Italy, 1938) and is used to predispose the listener to the narration of a story, a story whose characters do not refer to fairy tales or stories but to elements of an ancestral nature, epic in parts.
It is divided into four movements, all characterised by very similar musical elements centred on expressive and rhythmic research.
Le Case sotto i Pini is dedicated to fellow Sardinian musician Germana Porcu Morano.
