When checking my list of favorite modern day composers, Thierry Tisserand is definitely on the list. His music always seems to work well with my ears and taste and this edition is no exception.

First published in 2007, Thierry's Couleurs Latines is definitely one issue worth having. The issue contains six highly accessible, melodic, full sounding, Latin styled pieces. Romanza, Tendre Rumba, Kasi Mambo, Recuredos, Tango argente, and Vals de prima vera, round out the edition.

Romanza is a hauntingly beautiful piece beginning with a rubato call and echo intro for eight bars and then moves into the main section of the piece. The rumba jumps right into the rumba followed by an arpeggiated section where the melody is carried by the G and D strings, then back to the main rumba. The mambo grooves along with big driving bass keeping the whole arrangement together. Recuerdos is reminiscent of the Granados Spanish Dance #5 and the Vals de primavera, in ¾ time, eighth notes, moves along at a tempo of 148 like a Lauro Venezuelan waltz.

I highly recommend this edition. For those wishing to play South American and Spanish styled music without having to invest countless practice hours--this this is the ticket. They sound far more complicated than they are to play and are accessible to guitarists of various skill levels. As usual ,Tisserand's fingering are spot on, the type setting is excellent, and the music is just flat plain fun to play!
