Irrévérente was first conceived on a steel-string guitar before taking its final form as a work for solo classical guitar in Baltimore during the 2020 lockdown.
At that time, my wife, Alexandra Iranfar, wore a perfume called Irreverent. In the unique atmosphere of our confined apartment, the fragrance of that perfume seemed to blend naturally with the sounds of the guitar as I composed the piece. It therefore felt only natural to give the work the title Irrévérente, as a tribute to Alexandra and to those shared moments of creativity.
