It’s…big.
Review by Joe on 11 Sep 2023 review stating It’s…big. I purchased one out of curiosity to see how well it would do for strumming and flat picking. I prefer stiff thick picks most of the time and have been using a BlueChip TAD or TP for Bluegrass and old Time tunes. As the title implies, the pick is big…big…big. The bevel is so broad from the edge I had a problem catching the tip on the string to generate much volume. For me at least it scuffs along the string up to a point it lets go and makes a muted tone. Like anything over time I’m sure it’s possible to master the shape and playing dynamics in order to get the sound you like. Similar to other hard, thick picks it here is a pronounced amount of pick noise, it generates noticeable clicks and scratchy sounds.
Overall, it is comfortable in the hand and given the size has the potential to generate a lot of volume. In comparison the BlueChip TAD and TP 60 I use are silent and much faster and accurate moving string to string. The price of both brands of picks are similar so it’s a reasonable comparator. Of course keeping in mind that a TAD100, the thickest BC I’ve seen, will cost a lot more than either of these.
