I am sure that the makers of these strings have improved their production techniques over the last 5 years. They take a bit more winding than conventional strings to get up to pitch, but that was well worth it; they are pitch-stable, once they settle in after a day or two. They have a beautiful, big range of tones based on how you finger them, more than most strings I've played, as well as perfect intonation throughout their length. They do have a gut-like feel when pulling and hammering; this is a quality that Andres Segovia would be thrilled about, compared to nylon and carbon-fiber; Segovia preferred gut for playability and sound but switched to the newly invented nylon for durability and reliability when touring. Aquila has indeed produced the best of both worlds with these "Nylgut" strings -- a completely synthetic string with the strength and durability of nylon coupled with the feel and warm tone of gut. I've used their Nylgut strings on my lute and vihuela for years for the same reasons, and now I'm very happy to discover their great performance on my guitars.
