I heard about these (D'Addario EXL145) from Tim Lerch on Youtube. He said these were great for playing Jazz and Blues on a Telecaster and sure enough he was right. The heavy but unwound G string makes a really great sound for bends on your G string and the overall heavy gauges is great for jazz chords and comping. I found them fabulous for playing songs like Jeff Becks version of Goodbye Porkpie Hat. Sometimes I tune them to Eb when playing SRV and Hendrix stuff.

Basically this set of strings turns a Telecaster or a Stratocaster into a guitar for almost all styles with judicious use of your tone knob.
