Ernie Ball 2730 Slinky Cobalt 7-String Electric Guitar Strings 10-62

I needed a particular gauge for my 7-string and these were the closest I could get. I bought a single higher gauge for the 7th string. Then i realized i could have bought the six string set and added the single string, duh. Oh well, live and learn. This is a perfect set for the PRS Mark Holcomb SVN.

I've long been a loyal buyer of another brand of strings, however that brand didn't make a light top heavy bottom 7 string set, so I gave these a try and I'm glad I did. I'm a full on convert to these on all of my 7 strings now. The wound strings feel a little rough and 'grippy' compared to what I'm used to, but it sorta works out better. A couple things I've noticed with these strings is that they are have a much more 'alive' and pronounced mid range which is perfect for 7 string metal as it helps cut through better. The tension on a normal scale length guitar is drastically better than other strings i've used, I can tune once and go, other strings I've found you're either tuning your low B for attack or sustain not both (unless you use a baritone scale)...but these are rock solid and don't make for that compromise. I've also been rocking a set of these on my main studio guitar for the past 8 months and they still sound very much alive. So in summary:

Pros:
- Great longevity
- Punchy loud tone
- Improved tuning stability
- Great string tension

Cons:
- Wound string texture not as smooth as some other strings (maybe a con for some, doesn't really bug me tbh)

Of course as always Strings By Mail provides awesome service. This particular set wasn't carried, I mentioned them in a reply to an FB post and within 2 hours they had replied letting me know they now carry them and I promptly ordered them. This is what amazing service looks like!
