Pretty Good

The high E, 1st string and the B, 2nd string broke upon restringing the guitar. I tried a second set and they also broke. The sets do come with a plain metal strings for the E and B, so I used them. I guess Galli expects the nylon E and B to break. But the metal ones play well, and the nylon coated G, D, A, E are great, give me exactly the tones I was looking for. And the servcie AT SBM is excellent.

No cigar

These strings produce a warm tone, but perhaps bit too warm and too understated... They were recommended for jazz guitar and that is right, they will not excel for rock. Their advantage is their thickness: they have the volume of 10 strings, but they are thicker and are easier on one's fingers. They come with spares for the first two strings, and for good reason: the high e string broke as soon as I put a little tension on it. The spare doesn't have the black nylon coating so it's not as nice, but it does work. Seeing how fragile they may be I threaded all other string except the low E twice through the machine posts to reduce the pressure. It worked . They do hold the tuning OK, they look great, I just wish their sound had a bit more spark...

I recently purchased these strings and put them on my Heritage 550 model archtop. I love the way they sound and play. I bought a second set to replace the original set down the line. I'm very happy with my purchase!

Q: Dear Madam, Sir,

Do these have the same kind of tension as regular steel 12-56 strings, or, as I expect, a lower tension than silk&steel strings in the same gauges? If not actually heavier tension, do you have an idea how they would sound on a regular acoustic (a spruce+maple mini jumbo)? I saw your reply to "William N." that the trebles (B & E) are warmer/darker, which means they could be the alternative to plain steel strings that I've been hoping for.

A: Hello René ,
We do not have a tension chart for this set but we feel they do have a slightly lighter tension than the average 12-56 set. This set will probably not work well on an acoustic- in our opinion this set will be dull and quiet on an acoustic and the strings will not have enough energy for an acoustic application. Perhaps try a set of silver plated strings if you are looking for a warmer tone-

Q: I have a Schecter Jazz Elite, Schecter's version of a Gibson ES 175. I was looking at trying flat wound or tape wound strings. The descriptions I have read of tape wounds strings being softer and easier to bend even at heaver gauges have me leaning that direction. It looks like the Le Bella strings are too long (I am not sure there is any guitar long enough for the Le Bella's) so I stared looking at the Galli Tape wound strings. Because these are expensive for guitar strings I wanted ask a few questions. How long are these strings from ball to the end of the winding? Are they going to fit my guitar? If you trim the strings and cut the winding will they unravel like the La Bella strings? Does the winding on the b and high e string effect the tone noticeable?

A: Hello William ,
I have contacted Galli with regard to length and have been advised the lengths are:
"From ballend to the end of string/silk, it is 40”
From ballend to the end of winding (before silk starts), it is 33” "

I could not find enough info on your guitar to conclusively say these will work. If the distance from your tail piece to nut is less than 33" these should be okay for you though.
The string ends can be trimmed once tuned to pitch.
Most people will find the winding on B and E strings has a noticeable effect on tone. Most people find the tone to be noticeably "darker" or "warmer" than plain steel.

If possible measure your scale length and and length from tail piece to bridge so we can better assist you. Also bear in mind that if you like wound strings and decide to switch over a trip to a luthier for a full setup might be wise.
