GHS L7200 Pressurewound Electric Bass Strings 40-96 Light

I finally got to bring home my Squire VM fretless jazz bass today from the luthier :) These strings are nothing short of fantastic! Acoustically (without amplification), they sound and feel superb - props to GHS for designing such a great string for fretless. They are smooth to the touch and create "blooming" tones all over the fretboard effortlessly. The strings are quite smooth to the touch and have a standard-like bass string tension, despite being lower gauged strings. In addition, they have the brightness of round wounds without the over the top metallic spikes, and can go from bite to thump depending where you place the pad of your finger. I am most happy with them and will continue to do business with SBM for all my bass string needs! Thanks for reading :)

So far, I am most impressed with SBM. First, these strings came well packaged without any damage - a major plus in my book! Next, I received several beautiful decals (free of charge) and a kind welcome letter from the kind folks at SBM, in addition to my new string representative (almost unheard of service by most companies these days). Then, I brought the strings to the somewhat local luthier to be affixed and setup on my fretless jazz bass, as they are a lighter gauge/tension than the previous strings I had used, thus requiring proper intonation and adjustment. Lastly, I will follow up with Part 2 of my review once I get my bass back from the luthier with additional info on the strings playability/feel, sound, and any additional factors (such as tuning, etc. )

I first discovered these strings under the name "Ken Smith Compressors". I love them for their versatility. They are much easier on the fingers than standard round wounds, but still have tons of definition with far less string noise. More than half the basses in my collection have GHS Pressurewounds on them. One note: they tend to be stiffer than round wounds in the same gauge, so I order one size smaller to get the same feel. For example, if you like medium, get the medium-lights, If you like medium-lights, get lights. Otherwise they feel too stiff.

Love these strings. I’m getting older so switched to light 96. These are even better.
