Pyramid Chrome-Nickel Flat Wound 4 String Bass Long Scale 45-105

I use flats on several instruments but only have these on a Fender Precision Bass with a series-parallel switch. They are more responsive to right-hand technique than other flats, allowing me to invoke most classic Fender Bass tones with only one such instrument.

These are not vacuum sealed as the oxides of these materials create a natural protective coating that rubs off. They also have a touch of grip and unique appearance due to the uncommon metallurgy.

So, first off: make sure to have some alcohol wipes on hand. These strings had some kind of grunginess on them, you could see it on the white packets for each individual string. Wiping up and down the length of each string with alcohol pads, I got tons of black gunk off each one. Once clean, they are a higher-tension flat. Not as crazy-high as Rotosound RS77LD, but high enough I had to tighten my truss rod. Once installed, the strings are outstanding. The E, A, and D strings have a beautiful depth and warmth right away. The G string is noticeably brighter, and will take some playing time to mellow out with the rest. Pyramid flats are my preference for flat wound strings, the tone is great and the tension is firm without being to stiff.
