Excier J. Rodriguez is a Dominican –American composer, guitarist, and conductor born in Santiago, Dominican Republic who lives near Denver, Colorado where he teaches guitar at the Metropolitan University of Denver. He holds a Music Education degree from Luther College in Decorah, IA and a Masters of Music Performance from Wichita State University in Kansas.

During the first part of subtitled Amanecer or Sunrise, the use of the harmonics will lead you to feel the first sunrays of a Caribbean morning backed by the slow rise and drop of the waves. This part is followed by the “Danza, “ which is written in a contrasting fast tempo built over echoes of the Mississippi Blues combined with the Dominican - Caribbean Bachata dance. The tuning uses unusual scordaturas with the bases tuned to an open Eb (4th = Eb, 5th = Bb and 6th = Eb), but the trebles remain in the traditional tuning which facilitates the performing in unusual keys for the guitar like Eb Major and Eb minor. This is a very fun piece to play and listen to which also demands a solid technical practice from the performer.
