Description: Dake Traphagen is one of the top US luthiers, and in this era, he focused his efforts on the Gilbert-style instruments that were in vogue at the time. This guitar features a pin bridge (a la Gilbert) that increases clarity and separation of the voices. The individual pins replace the saddle and allow each string to submit its energy directly to the soundboard. It is powerful and can easily fill a hall or work well as a chamber instrument. It also has an internal microphone system that allows the player to plug directly into an amplifier or sound system. This was a gigging musicians’ guitar and was used for literally thousands of performances. This guitar features a spruce top and CSA rosewood on the back and sides. The top has several repaired cracks (done with top level skill), which are stable and only contribute to the allure of the gigging musicians’ workhorse instrument.
