This is a new publication of 2024 written and edited by Brian Jeffery, about Sor’s famous piece Grand Solo. It is a set of four items of which one is a short book which describes in detail the currently known early sources of Grand Solo, solves a puzzle, and describes the possible origins of the piece. Part Two of the book discusses and seeks to answer the question: which version should I play, and why? The book is accompanied by three separately printed new editions of the three principal early versions of Grand Solo which are significantly different from each other, so that players can decide for themselves, on the basis of the information provided in the book, which of the three versions they wish to play.

This new publication Sor’s Grand Solo builds on the discovery by Mario Torta of the fine arrangement of Grand Solo made by Pierre-Jean Porro in about 1811 and discusses that version and the other two early versions.

As well as this version in four books TECLA 1220, we also have the same material in one single book as TECLA 1226.. Anyone who would like to have the different versions printed separately for easy comparison will prefer this present TECLA 1220 which is in four separate books, while anyone who would just like to have the material on their shelf for reference may wish to purchase TECLA 1226. which is the same material in one single book.
