D'Andrea RADEX Smoke 346 Shape Guitar Pick, X-Heavy 1.25mm, One Pick

They just feel great, and I like the tone

I’ve been on a pick sampling spree lately, and have a *ton* of different picks now. (Note that I haven’t sampled the Blue Chip or other expensive picks. ) I’m mostly using pretty heavy picks now, as I”m trying to improve my acoustic flatpicking. So far, the thick D’Andreas are my favorite. They are so slick on the strings that everything just flows a little more easily. Both gauges (1mm and 1. 25mm) deliver a very rich tone with very little pick noise. The 1. 25 is a tad darker toned, which I prefer on my bright-toned instrument. My next faves are the PrimeTones, which come in a lot of thicknesses, but lately I’m always going to these Radex picks. Give them a try.

When looking for an amp one is concerned with tone, same thing with a pick. What I am looking for is sweet tone and minimal annoying pick noise. With its polished edges and it smoothly rolling off the strings as you pick, the tone is enhanced. The selection of the thickness of the pick allows the player to choose a stiffness that appeals. These picks are a welcome inclusion to my tool box.

Radex picks are an improvement over Pro Plec (which are very good)

Like pro plec you get good tone with little pick noise. Radex are more lively I think.

But. . . Make a thicker version. 1. 25 is OK but I need at least 2. 0.
Also they need to make a round corners version as well.

I have tried a variety of RADIX picks in different thicknesses and quantities. When I measure the thickness with a digital calipers, almost every one is thinner than the advertised thickness. Maybe 25% of the batch are the right thickness.I sent D'Andrea sales an email about this and they admitted that the RADEL material used for the RADEX picks is "volatile." They are going to have a conversation with the supplier to see if they can improve the QC on the thickness of the material.

HOWEVER, D'Andrea does have a good thing going with the RADEX picks. Try this: Mute your guitar strings at the 12th fret and tap the G string with any other pick. You'll hear a "tink" "tink" sound. Then try the same thing with a RADEX pick. The RADEX picks produce more of a "thak", "thak" for the attack transient, MUCH LESS annoying "pick noise". One of the 1.25 RADEX picks actually was 1.3mm in thickness and makes a really OUTSTANDING jazz pick.
