Outstanding Pick
Review by Adam F. on 30 Oct 2025 review stating Outstanding Pick I recently purchased some new picks made out of a variety of materials and was surprised to see that Golden Gate had ones made of Ivoroid. I own and have owned older acoustic guitars whose bridge pins and binding were Ivoroid, but I didn't realize they also made picks out of the stuff. Anyway, along with a bunch of celluloid picks in different thicknesses, I ordered one of these Golden Gate picks in Ivoroid. Wow, it's great. It's funny how the thickness and stiffness of various materials can really affect the tone of an acoustic. I definitely hear a difference with this pick. Yes, it's subtle, but it's there. This pick seems to be ever so slightly smaller overall than standard mediums. It is both thinner in terms of mass, but slightly stiffer I think than other medium and thins I've been using of late made of celluloid and Tortex. There's a nice, clear snap when you pluck an individual string or strum a chord and the material seems to in no way dampen any of the overtones in the way that medium and thick picks made of most synthetics do. Overall, I think these are great picks and a wonderful discovery through Strings By Mail. I plan on ordering more to try in different thicknesses soon.
