Strings for Vintage Epiphone Archtop
Review by Geoffrey M. on 6 Apr 2020 review stating Strings for Vintage Epiphone Archtop T-I strings are on all my guitars (though my nylon guitar has a mix of T-I, La Bella and Hannabach). So when I recently purchased a 1949 Epiphone Triumph Regent, it was time to experiment with strings. IMHO, it makes no sense to spend thousands on a nice guitar (new or old) and not spend $100 or so seeing which strings sound best on THAT guitar. I have T-I George Benson flatwounds on my Gretsch Chet Atkins Hollowbody, and suspect I'll end up with those on the Epiphone as well. But the Epiphone has a carved top and floating single coil pickup, so I thought it deserved a trial of round wounds.
The balance and tone are excellent, and due to the heavy gauge and T-I quality, they stay in tune quite well. The nickel provides nice warm tones, but still on the bright side. The feel of these strings is, typical for T-I, excellent. I anticipate liking the tone of the flatwounds more than these, but these are great strings that give this guitar a wonderful tone.
