D'Addario Flat Tops Acoustic Guitar Strings EFT13 Resophonic Med 16-56

The smoothness of the Flattops allows the bar to glisten across the strings. I am a great fan of trying different brands, materials and styles of strings and these are the strings I've continued with. Go ahead give them a try.

A classical guitarist that has recently turned his attention to accoustic steel string guitars installed these light guage strings on his Alvarez MD90 Dreadnought guitar. Although the bass strings are not as smooth as the La Bella polished or as smooth as the medium to heavy guage flat wound strings he uses on his electric guitars, they are still fairly smooth and almost "squeak-proof" under his fingers. Although the light guage strings are a bit easier to fret with than what I had on there, they are still stiffer than what I had expected. Perhaps because they are new. I haven't noticed any reduction in volume, they produce a very good tone. However, I will install D'Addario Extra Lights or some extra light low tension strings on a different guitar today and see if there is a big difference.

I have been using the round wound version of these strings (EJ42) for a long time, rating them better than other brand equivalents. I had always wanted to try these flat wound versions but at almost twice the price of the EJ42s I held off buying for a long time. Now I have finally tried a set and have to say that I am somewhat disappointed. Yes, they are less noisy for slide playing(especially if using a metal slide), as you would expect being flat wound, but I find them quite dull in tone compared to the EJ42s and the intonation on the lower thicker strings is noticeably less accurate. I have only tried them on one instrument so far, perhaps I should take them off and try them on another to see if my findings are replicated.
