Awesome low B

There seems to be a bit of alchemy in finding the right low B for every bass, and this is one of the few, that right out of the gate "feels" right. This has some resonance on my instrument, not the familiar "thud" of others.
It's a great match for the Chromes Custom Light set (review below)
Flatwound sets are NOT created equally, and there is a wide spectrum of tone and tension between manufactures. I really, really like this set of the Custom Light Chromes (40, 60, 80, 100). I’m a little bummed that I had to purchase a separate low B string (132), but this is a great set of strings. They have a great feel under both hands, both in texture and tension. I’ve played some other other sets where the G and D feel disproportionately higher in tension than the E and A (this is what I refer to as “perceived tension” and is independent of what the actual specs on paper may be).
They start out bright— like new round-wound string bright. This is very different compared to a set compared to some other manufacturers which, in my experience, still need playing in, but sound very dead to begin with.
After two weeks, the Chromes have settled in very nicely on my bass. The 40-132 Chromes have just about the same tension on the neck as some 45-130 strings by another brand, and I just needed a subtle change to the truss rod. I bought the Chromes to play exclusively with a pick, and it’s exactly the sound I’ve been “hearing” in my head: A strong fundamental with a percussive front end, but much less of the high-mid “clank.”
I think these would be a great starting point for anyone that currently plays round-wound strings but is looking to get into the flats game.
