de Falla | Definitive by Nestor Ausqui Bk w/ online audio

First rate transcriptions, very happy.

I've been looking for a good solo guitar collection of De Falla's music for quite some time, and I'm so glad I browsed Strings by Mail and found this gem! I don't know anything about the arranger/editor Nestor Ausqui, but he's done an excellent job with this book! There are very little typos, and the fingerings that are suggested are excellent. On top of the great arrangements, you get a CD which just adds to the great value of this purchase. I cannot attest to the CD quality as I like to go through the music first without hearing another's interpretation, however if you do not know what these pieces sound like at first, take a listen to the CD. I bought it primarily for The Dance of the Miller from the ballet Three Cornered Hat. I previously owned (a long time ago) the Chester Music published Dance of the Miller and Dance of the Corregidor arranged by Siegfried Behrend, copyrighted 1964. I always found those arrangements lacking. This book, published by Mel Bay, is really quite a few steps up. These pieces are definitely best suited for the advanced intermediate or advanced guitarist; Mr. Ausqui does not include suggestions for rasqueado strumming, which is a good thing, but you have to understand the concept. You could follow other's interpretations, however, and just strum it, but the rasgueado really adds the spanish flamenco flavor. These pieces are well suited for the concert stage, just as much as Granados or Albeniz. It's amazing how much the orchestral version really does sound like a guitar.
