Pyramid Acoustic Guitar Strings Western Folk Round Core Med 13-56

Crazy good on late 40’s Gibson L7 with a Lollar Johnny Smith PU. I like the 11’s on flat top, but the 13’s really wake the Archtops up.

I wanted to amend my previous review. I tried these strings (I bought two sets) on my old Epiphone arch top. They were pretty good to start though I usually use 80/20 strings. What surprised me is that got better over time and they lasted a long time. I just changed them, going back to La Bella 80/20’s. It turned out that the new low ‘E’ string was no good so I put the old western Folk string back on. I think it sounds about the same as the other, new strings. There was no trouble fitting the Western Folk into the crazy tailpiece and they were long enough. I think I’m going to make these the standard strings for this guitar.

I came across mention of these as favorite strings while browsing guitar discussions. I had noticed but dismissed them because of their name and price but finding them so favorably commented upon took another look. The photo of the package shows 'Bronze' strings as does the initial description. On the listing for a particular gauge it says phosphor bronze though the image says bronze. I'm not a big fan of phosphor bronze but decided to chance it. When they arrived the package said Phosphor Bronze. They sound like phosphor bronze strings. I'd say they sound pretty much the same as D'A strings. The big difference is the construction. The wrap at the ball end is huge. I have a slotted tail piece and the three lower strings wouldn't even fit. I've found the low 'E' with 14's to get a bit stuck but these required me to enlarge the slot with my drill. I thought maybe with the massive wrap and round core they might do something special but I was wrong. They're not bad but nothing special.
