Since the ukulele approx. In 1874 appeared on the scene, gut strings were the only alternative available. The production of modern synthetic materials, especially nylon, became more favourable strings, got a longer life and higher resistance to climate fluctuations. However, something was lost due to the departure of gut strings: the special feeling of playing, the sound character similar to the human voice.
