Aquila Rubino Normal Tension Classical Guitar Strings 132C, Treble Set

I was looking for a bright sounding treble set and these strings have an interesting sound. Not as bright as I was looking for, but these have a different sound than any other strings I have tried. After having snapped a few of the Aquila Sugar strings just bringing them up to pitch I was extremely careful with these and didn't have any problems tuning them.

Since my original review I'd like share how they perform and wear. My primary guitar is a Cordoba Fusion 14R. I made new saddle and nut, lowered action as much as I could and loved it! After a couple of months the B (2nd) string brecame twangy. I couldn't feel any nicks on it like one might encounter when they are worn out. I thought it was my guitar, checked for loose braces, bridge nut etc. #?!? drove me crasy, finally pulled the string off, without tension the usually slick feel of the Rubino's became a series of slightly thinner spots where the frets were, all up and down the neck. Replaced it with a B string from a granato set I was about to try, that was it! My wag is that the string vibration became unstable with slightly off frequencies bertween the thin or distorted points up and down the string. To share another point about these strings is that they are sensitive to sharp edges. You don't have to round off or wallow out the nut slots or saddle, just knock off any sharp edge. While checking diameters with a dial micrometer one of the strings popped without any excess pressure, after finding strings that you will stay with recommend fitting a nut with just the right fit for these after they are stretched (uniformly full length) and remember that a new string might be slightly larger. Love the strings (I only use reds on my ukuleles, so it was a no brainer to try these). The bass strings are a bit weak compared to some classical sets, bit I have gotten accustomed to the sound and like them now. They are installed on a vintage Guild MKII.

Great e and g. Great product for its price since I usually keep trebles on for several months. But you MUST STRETCH Them when stringing them up. If you like to mix and match different brands like I do, Aquilas have a unique sound and feel and are worth a try. Top: spruce side/b: cypress

The first string of the Rubino normal tension set broke three times in a row when it approached the E pitch (on a John Price 650 mm guitar) with the initial tuning. I have never tried this set before. I hope that this was just a "bad" string. The string appears to be very thin. Very disappointing.
