The NeckUp 6 Inch Guitar Support is wonderfully versatile and incredibly comfortable. With this support, you can avoid the lower back pain that often occurs when using a foot stool.
A 6-inch support arm shifts the balance point toward the headstock. It also provides a little more lift for traditional left leg position. NeckUp calls this the Classical model, but it also may appeal to steel string acoustic players because it provides a highly elevated playing position.
The leather device allows freedom of movement in many directions. And it fits a huge variety of instruments—from acoustic and classical guitars to tenor ukuleles to mandolas and octave mandolins.
Here are just a few of this support’s other advantages:
- It allows you to adjust the guitar neck from level to at least 45 degrees
- It works for right or left leg position
- It easily folds up to fit in most guitar cases
A slotted hole at one end attaches directly to a guitar’s endpin/jack if available. This creates a solid anchor from one end of the strap to the guitar. If you don’t have an endpin/jack, you can attach that end of the support with a suction cup. The other end attaches to the middle-lower bout area with a suction cup. Two 2.5-inch suction cups and one 1.75-inch cup ship with the support. You choose which 2 cups to use based on the instrument’s size and your personal preference, and the third is a spare.
Changing your guitar’s angle simply requires adjusting the suction cup’s placement on the bout. Our testing at Strings By Mail found that initial adjustments can be a bit time consuming. However, once you find what works, getting the support on and off the guitar is a breeze.
The NeckUp 6 Inch Guitar Support provides between 3.5 inches and 7.5 inches of lift. You can tilt the guitar toward you a modest 10 degrees, but any greater tilt can cause the suction cups to come loose.
This 6 inch black guitar support is also available in brown. A 4-inch version provides 3 inches to 6.5 inches of lift, and a 5-inch version offers 3.5 inches to 6.5 inches of lift.
You should remove guitar supports and other detachable accessories from your guitar after each use. Before attaching any accessory to your guitar, be sure that your instrument’s finish has cured at least six months.
Certain guitar finishes, like French Polishes, require suction cup protectors like the Kling-On SP-2P-C, which aids in suction cup strength. This product uses a light, non-permanent adhesion.
