Flat Wound Strings
Review by R. A. on 21 Nov 2020 review stating Flat Wound Strings I have played flat wound bass strings, and heavy flat wounds on my jazz archtop in the past, so I guess I had some expectations.
The tone of these strings is fine, but the smoothness leaves a lot to be desired. They feel sharp like fish scales as I slide low to high. Regular round wound strings in this light gauge actually feel smoother to me. They are installed on a 1974 lawsuit Les Paul that I just set up with a new fingerboard and frets. I will likely play these for a couple more weeks, just for the heck of it, and maybe I will hit them with some 2000 grit and wax before I toss them, just for fun, but I likely won't be buying another set in the future.
Oh well, they were not expensive, so the experiment isn't a huge disappointment. Just "meh".
